[1] The Quantum III can store 50 complete subject records. The Quantum IV stores a single resistance and reactance record. When the Quantum IV segmental option is used 13 zones of resistance and reactance data are stored (26 records). The Quantum Desktop can store 500 complete records or save 12,000 real time resistance and reactance data points with time stamps.

[2] The fish option of the Quantum III is designed to record hundreds of individual fish records while used at sea. These records can then be downloaded via the USB port to a PC for analysis.

Quantum IV - BIA Analyzer

Quantum IV BIA AnalyzerThe Quantum IV precisely measures resistance and reactance with 0.1 ohms of resolution. New features such as a bright back lit LCD and isolated USB port are standard. It is used to assess human body composition from whole-body measurements. By measuring the way the body conducts electricity, it can perform a complete body composition analysis and generate a printout using BC (body composition) software in a matter of minutes. In addition, the Quantum IV can also be configured as a segmental BIA analyzer where the resistance and reactance values of each arm, leg and the torso can be measured. For more information on segmental BIA: Eight Electrode Segmental BIA - PDF

The Quantum IV is an advanced BIA Analyzer System with features and specifications not currently available in traditional RJL products. It is extremely accurate and easy to use with an enclosure that has a comfortable curved ergonomic design. As RJL Systems develops new capabilities for the Quantum IV, the analyzer can be re-programmed to incorporate new features via a PC connected to the Internet.

The reliability and repeatability of the Quantum IV is the same as all RJL Systems BIA instruments because the subject (patient) is not directly connected to any active circuits or ground paths. Only the true biological resistance and reactance between the detecting electrodes is linearly measured from 0 to 1000 ohms. This unique isolation is what gives RJL Products and the Quantum IV its unsurpassed reliability, accuracy and repeatability.

Quantum III - BIA Analyzer

Quantum III BIA Analyzer The Quantum III has the same range (0-1000 ohms) and resolution (0.1 ohms) of our Quantum X Analyzer and is used to assess human body composition from whole-body measurements.

Some of the popular BIA instruments RJL Systems developed over 25 years ago had a built in computer and printer (BIA-103) and a few are still in use today. The Quantum III revisits this tradition using current technologies as a scientific instrument that is self-contained and portable. The Quantum III was designed to give the user a variety of technical options as to how data is recorded, stored, viewed and printed.

What makes the Quantum III so unique is that, despite its compact size and portability, it is a self-contained system of measuring and recording BIA data. It does not require a PC to record and store information - up to 110 time-stamped records can be stored in its non-volatile internal memory. The large keypad makes it easy to enter subject information and create a complete body composition record and report. The batteries last for approximately 12 hours of continual use, and can be safely fully recharged within 3 hours.

The user has two options to print body composition reports: 1) the portable thermal printer or 2) use the secure 434 MHz radio frequency link for printing graphic reports on a PC within a 300 ft range. The RF link complies with most world wide regulatory standards.

Human body composition data can also be saved in the BC Software database on a PC for further analysis and historical tracking of individuals who have the same subject ID saved in the Quantum III.

The Quantum III is extremely accurate and FAST - it can perform a complete body composition analysis and generate a printout or send data to a PC in a matter of minutes. Its recording, data storage and self-testing features reduce errors in measurement and data entry. Like all RJL products, it is built to specifications necessary to comply with peer review literature guidelines and traditional BIA Instruments.

Quantum Desktop - BIA Analyzer

Quantum Desktop BIA AnalyzerThe Quantum Desktop System, like all RJL Analyzers, is designed to be a portable instrument. It has the same range (0-1000 ohms) and resolution (0.1 ohms) as our Quantum X Analyzer. It also can be used to analyze human body composition or perform BIA analysis on biological materials such as animals, fish, plants, or specific segments of the human body (i.e. chest, muscle groups, and organs). (1)

The Desktop System is a complete, self-contained instrument. When used for measuring human body composition it can retrieve resistance and reactance values from the subject, perform all of the body composition calculations, and print a basic report using the attached thermal printer. Data entry (subject ID, height, weight, etc) is accomplished with the keyboard included with the Desktop System.

This system can temporarily store patient records, so they can be transferred later to the BC Software for historical tracking and printing of more detailed reports. In addition, the Desktop System can be directly connected to a PC and interact with BC Software.

Its accuracy, record storage system, and printing capability reduce errors in measurements and data entry. Like all RJL products, it is built to specifications necessary to comply with peer review literature guidelines and traditional BIA instruments.

What makes the Desktop different from other RJL Analyzers is that it is designed to measure resistance and reactance as Real Time events. Real Time BIA is similar to using a video camcorder, only instead of recording moving images, a steady stream of data with adjustable sampling rates from one millisecond to several hours between samples can be obtained. The Desktop can save up to 15,000 records with individual time stamps in its internal non-volatile memory that can be retrieved at a later time.

The Data Logger software, (2) which is included with the Quantum Desktop System, allows it to do much more than the Quantum X. The Data Logger allows the system to be used as an impedance plethysmograph, recording real-time changes in resistance and reactance, and displaying them on the screen. The Data Logger is not sold separately, as it is designed to be used solely with the Quantum Desktop. Its use is intended for investigational purposes only.

RJL Systems has produced a series of essays discussing the science of BIA and applications of the Quantum Desktop to collect real-time data. Those essays can be found here.

Features and Specifications User Guide and Documentation Purchase

1. RJL Systems only provides software for estimating human body composition from a whole-body measurement. Users wishing to do segmental body composition analysis or to study nonhuman organisms must acquire software or equations elsewhere. BC is packaged with the Quantum Desktop.

2. The Data Logger extends the Quantum Desktop beyond a body composition analyzer. The Data Logger allows the Quantum Destop to be used as an impedance plethysmograph, recording real-time changes in resistance and reactance. The Data Logger is not sold separately, as it is designed to be used solely with the Quantum Desktop.

Quantum X - BIA Analyzer

Quantum X BIA Analyzer The Quantum X has the same compact size, portability and range (0 to 1000 ohms) as the Quantum II, with a significant technical difference - the Quantum X has 10 times the resolution (1) of the Quantum II.

It is important to note that all our Analyzers measure the composition of biological matter by utilizing BIA science. However, we design a variety of instruments for specific types of applications. The Quantum II and Quantum X may look the same, but they are used for different purposes.

The Quantum II is the most popular choice for health professionals who want to use BIA to analyze human body composition as a whole body measurement. While the Quantum X can also be used for this purpose, it is also capable of performing BIA analysis on subjects such as animals, fish, plants as well as specific segments of the human body (i.e. chest, muscle groups and organs).(2) These measurements may yield resistances of less than 100 ohms and require increased resolution to reduce measurement error.

The Quantum X is primarily designed for the research community - ideal for biologists and other researchers who need to measure and collect BIA data. Measurements with the Quantum X are quick, repeatable and accurate. Its portability gives researchers the option to use it "out in the field."

Features and Specifications User Guide and Documentation Purchase

1. The Quantum X has 0.1 ohms of resolution (resistance and reactance) and the Quantum II has 1.0 ohms of resolution.

2. RJL Systems only provides software for estimating human body composition from a whole-body measurement. Users wishing to do segmental body composition analysis or to study nonhuman organisms must acquire software elsewhere. BC is packaged with the Quantum X.

Quantum II - BIA Analyzer

Quantum II BIA AnalyzerThe Quantum II is an ideal choice for users who desire a BIA Analyzer that is compact and portable. The combined key features of the Quantum II and the accompanying BC software provide an easy-to-use, accurate and affordable system for revealing and monitoring changes in the composition of the human body. For more information on the software, click here.

Many professionals in the health, fitness and nutrition fields find this system very useful when scale weight alone does not provide enough information to manage an overall health plan for individuals. With the Quantum II they have the ability to know when fat, fat-free mass, and fluids are lost or gained in order to improve body composition in relation to health and fitness management.

After testing with the Quantum II Analyzer, the measurements are entered into the BC software which performs the body composition analysis. The end results can provide guidance for an individual to improve their body composition using the diet and exercise wizard in BC.

For researchers, the Quantum II is designed to provide bioelectrical resistance and reactance measurements in a variety of populations. Extremely small changes in body composition can be illustrated due to the instrument's exceptional accuracy and repeatability. The results of testing with the Quantum II system can provide the user with a method to monitor and historically track body composition changes.
